Planned activities play a crucial role in all residential care settings. Overall, planned activities contribute to a higher quality of life for residents/clients by addressing various aspects of their well-being, including social, physical, cognitive, emotional, and psychological needs.
RCFE: Accorcing to Title 22, Section 87219, residents shall be encouraged to maintain and develop their fullest potential for independent living throught participation in planned activities. Activities made available shall include; socializtion, daily living skills, leisure time, physical, educational, and provisions for free time. In facilities licensed for 16 or more, staff shall have the responsibility for the organization, conduct and evaluation of planned activities.
ARF: Accorcing to Title 22, Section 85079, the licensee shall ensure that planned recreational activities, which include the following, are provided for the clients; activities that require group interaction, and physical activities including but not limited to games, sports, and exercise. Licensee shall ensure that clients are given the opportunity to attend and participate in community activities.
Description: This 3-day live stream webinar engages the learner in processes for the role and responsibility of the activity programming in residential living. If you operate or work for a RCFE/ARF provider this course is designed to provide an overview of key activities information, including: resident assessment, program design, implementing activities, organization, and critique of activity plans.
Day 1: Approved for 8 hrs on laws and regulations
Identify the regulatory bodies and regulations specific to residential care facilities
Recognize the role and responsibilities of the California Social Services Department
Recognize and reflect the importance of the policy and organizational structure of an assisted living community
Identify the role and function of the activity professional in an residential care facility based on a social model
Define California state regulations governing assisted living communities with regards to the psychosocial wellbeing of residents, their loved ones, and the people working at the facility
Identify the fundamentals of recruitment, training, and placement of activity support staff and volunteers
Day 2: Approved for 8 hrs of continuing education
Define maintenance and housekeeping requirements as they relate to activity programming
Demonstrate the understanding of safety and sanitary precautions in congregate living
Describe motor vehicle resident transport considerations and management
Describe physical plant standards and regulations as they relate to the psychosocial aspects of life
List the components of an emergency preparedness plan
Discuss basic services to be provided by the activity program in a residential care facility
Demonstrate techniques and skills that will assist a resident with special needs during activity programming and maximize the benefits of peer socialization
Day 3: Approved for 8 hrs on dementia
Apply food service and safety requirements during activity programming
Describe proper food preparation and storage for the safety of the residents
Summarize end-of-life care support and programming for meaningful engagement
Recognize regulatory requirements related to the residents’ right to make medical decisions and advance healthcare directives
Discuss the components of the pre-admission appraisal procedure and the considerations for social factors
Explore proper documentation and the use of a person-centered care approach
Identify provisions in California’s Death with Dignity Act
Differentiate person-centered care from the traditional model of congregate living
Recommend requirements for establishing a needs and services plan
Construct an activity schedule based on preferences and routines
Quote the incidence and impact of dementia
